About the No. 8
The Coda No. 8 is a high-performance stereo amplifier known for its powerful output and exceptional sound quality. It delivers 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 800 watts per channel into 4 ohms in its latest V3 version, with approximately 8 watts operating in pure Class A mode. Earlier versions offered lower power outputs, such as 150 watts into 8 ohms with 18 watts Class A in V1. The amplifier features 20 individual output transistors per channel, capable of a combined power of 3,600 watts and 75 amps, with a bandwidth extending up to 10 MHz. It uses a robust 3.0 kVA toroidal transformer with independent rectifiers and 80,000 uF of capacitance to ensure stable power delivery. The No. 8 is praised for its effortless, natural sound quality, emphasizing timbre and tonality, with exceptional detail retrieval without harshness or glare. It creates a large, precise, and three-dimensional soundstage and can deliver powerful bass when required. The amplifier maintains a very low noise floor (more than -116 dB referenced to rated output), contributing to its transparency and musicality. Its distortion is less than 0.03% from 10 Hz to 20 kHz at 350 watts both channels driven into 4 to 8 ohms. The amplifier has a gain of 26 dB, input impedance of 50k ohms unbalanced and 10k ohms balanced, and an output impedance of 0.04 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Slew rate is 50 volts per microsecond, and it can handle peak currents of 150 amperes. The Coda No. 8 is highly regarded for its ability to reproduce music with clarity, naturalness, and a seamless flow, making it suitable for audiophiles seeking a high-end, powerful amplifier with a refined sound signature.
