The Clearaudio Ambient CMB turntable incorporates a main plinth made from multiple layers of Panzerholz, a bulletproof wood used in armored vehicles, sandwiched between brushed aluminum sheets for resonance optimization and aesthetic appeal. It features a 40mm thick silicon acrylic platter that rests on Clearaudio's patented Ceramic Magnetic Bearing (CMB), which uses two opposing magnets to levitate the platter, eliminating traditional ball bearings and significantly reducing friction and noise. This bearing system results in exceptional speed stability and a blacker background noise floor, enhancing musical realism and detail retrieval. The synchronous motor is housed separately in a smaller matching plinth and controlled by a “Smart” speed controller. The Ambient CMB supports speeds of 33 1/3 and 45 rpm, with an optional 78 rpm pulley. The turntable weighs approximately 12 kg and measures about 535 mm x 330 mm x 150 mm.
