About the 3440AH SUT
The Cinemag 3440AH SUT is a premium step-up transformer (SUT) used to increase the output voltage of moving coil (MC) phono cartridges to the level of moving magnet (MM) cartridges, enabling compatibility with standard MM inputs on amplifiers. It features ultra-high quality laminations for superior sound quality and is configured for selectable gain ratios, typically switching between 9x gain (loading at 560 Ohms) and 18x gain (loading at 140 Ohms), with the possibility of configuring for 36x gain (loading around 50 Ohms). The 3440AH model is known for its blue label and superior laminations compared to the 3440A red label variant. It is housed in a shielded black aluminum chassis to minimize interference and noise. This SUT is highly regarded for its sonic performance and is often used in high-fidelity audio setups to maximize the performance of MC cartridges.
