The Cello Audio Suite P603 Tape Head Preamp is a premium module designed to fit into the Cello Audio Suite mainframe, occupying 3 bays. It serves as a state-of-the-art playback preamplifier for analog tape decks from manufacturers such as Studer, Telefunken, and Ampex. The P603 provides highly accurate and low-noise amplification of tape head signals, which are similar in electrical characteristics to MM cartridges. It features ten-turn calibrated dials for precise level adjustments at 31.5 Hz, 1 kHz, and 10 kHz frequencies, allowing quick reproduction of NAB, CCIR, AES, and other special equalizations with repeatability within 0.1 dB. The controls allow continuous rotation for exact test tone reproduction from master tapes. A switch enables selectable head damping characteristics to optimize playback. The module uses high-performance three-pin Fischer connectors (with optional XLR) and separates audio ground from chassis ground for both input and output to minimize noise.
