About the CT7
The Carver CT-7, also known as CT-Seven, is a vintage remote control preamplifier and AM/FM tuner produced in the 1980s. It incorporates Carver's Sonic Holography technology and ACCD (Adaptive Crosstalk Cancellation Device) Sonic Hologram Generator to enhance stereo imaging and soundstage. The unit offers six audio inputs, including phono, CD, video, and auxiliary, along with tape monitor and dubbing capabilities. It features tone controls for bass, midrange, and treble with boost/cut of up to 8 dB, a loudness control, balance, and an audio mute function that reduces volume by 90%. The tuner section includes a digital display, signal strength meter, multipath noise reduction circuit, and supports mono and stereo reception. The CT-7 outputs a maximum preamp level of 7 to 8 volts with a total harmonic distortion of 0.5% and a signal-to-noise ratio of 90 dB for both MM phono and line inputs. It measures approximately 484 x 89 x 308 mm and weighs 5.1 kg. The unit is well-regarded for tight bass, midrange control, and the unique holography effect, making it a valued piece for vintage hi-fi enthusiasts. It comes with a 27-button wireless infrared remote control. The CT-7 has been noted to have some issues with the power switch in some units but remains a solid preamp/tuner combo when serviced properly.
