About the CT 90
The Canton CT 90 is a 3-way bass reflex floorstanding speaker system manufactured in Germany between 1987 and 1990. It features a 260 mm woofer, 120 mm midrange driver, and a 25 mm aluminum-manganese dome tweeter. The speaker has a nominal power handling of 150 watts and a maximum of 250 watts, with an efficiency of 94.5 dB and an impedance of 4 ohms. Its frequency response ranges from 20 Hz to 30,000 Hz, with crossover frequencies at 450 Hz and 4000 Hz. The cabinet is available in finishes such as black ash, white ash, walnut, oak, and mahogany, measuring 310 x 900 x 320 mm and weighing 24 kg. The CT 90 is noted for its robust build quality and detailed sound reproduction, typical of German engineering. It was originally priced around 3100 DM per pair. The speaker uses an aluminum die-cast frame woofer with a cone paper designed for excellent damping and linearity, and a rear enclosure for the midrange driver to reduce interference. The design includes felt on the front baffle to absorb reflections from the tweeter, enhancing sound clarity.
