About the Azur 840C
The Cambridge Audio Azur 840C is an audiophile-grade upsampling compact disc player designed to enhance the playback quality of Redbook CDs and other digital sources. It features a custom digital filter implemented on an Analog Devices Blackfin 32-bit DSP chip, which upsamples 44.1kHz/16-bit audio to 384kHz/24-bit. The player uses dual Analog Devices AD1955 24-bit DACs in a fully differential balanced configuration, significantly reducing distortion and noise. It offers extensive connectivity including two digital inputs (coaxial and Toslink), digital outputs with selectable sampling frequency, word length, and dither options, as well as balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog outputs. The 840C can function as a high-quality DAC for external digital sources and supports naming of digital inputs displayed on the front panel. The unit has a robust aluminum chassis, a large LCD display showing track and upsampling information, and comes with a remote control that also operates compatible Cambridge Audio amplifiers. It supports digital input sampling frequencies from 32kHz up to 192kHz and outputs upsampled audio at 384kHz fixed 24-bit resolution. The player weighs 8.5 kg and measures 115 x 430 x 360 mm. It was released around 2006-2007 with an The 840C is praised for its detailed sound, excellent stereo imaging, and build quality, though some reviews note it lacks the most expressive bass and attack compared to some competitors.
