The Cambridge Audio Azur 640P is a phono preamplifier that supports both MM and MC cartridges, offering high gain and low noise performance. It uses single-ended 'Class A' gain stages with discrete transistors instead of integrated circuits, reducing cross-talk and interference. The 640P employs audiophile passive RIAA equalisation for minimal phase distortion and features multi-parallel capacitors to achieve exceptional RIAA accuracy of ±0.3dB up to 50kHz. It includes a defeatable subsonic filter to reduce vinyl rumble and comes in an acoustically damped steel chassis with a robust anodised aluminium front plate. Gold-plated input connectors minimize signal degradation, and an external power supply is standard. The unit is praised for its quiet operation, clean and well-defined sound, excellent detail extraction, and controlled bass. Dimensions are 215 x 46 x 133 mm, weighing 0.9 kg. It was released around 2005 and is no longer in production.
