About the BCD-1
The Bryston BCD-1, introduced around 2007, is a dedicated Red Book CD and CD-R player renowned for its exceptional build quality, sonic performance, and focus on minimizing jitter through synchronized transport and DAC clocking. It employs a modified Philips VAM1202/12 or L1210 plastic transport, Crystal Semiconductor CS4398 multibit delta-sigma DAC upsampling to 192kHz with 128x oversampling, and fully discrete Class-A analog output stages with independent power supplies for analog and digital sections. Rear panel includes balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog outputs, transformer-coupled AES/EBU (XLR), S/PDIF (RCA), and TosLink optical digital outputs, RS-232 for firmware updates, and 12V trigger input. A full-function machined aluminum IR remote controls playback and volume on compatible Bryston products. Finishes available in black or silver, with 17" or 19" wide faceplates. Production discontinued due to Philips transport module unavailability, replaced by BCD-3.
