About the LaGrange

Brinkmann Audio LaGrange is a discontinued high-mass turntable designed for maximum mechanical stability and low-resonance playback. Brinkmann states that the platter weighs 16 kg, is 9 cm tall, uses a resonance-free alloy, and is pressed with a screw-down clamp against a crystal-glass platter top to improve record contact and reduce tracking-related vibration. The bearing is electronically heated to reduce sensitivity to temperature changes, and the drive uses a precision-ground round belt with individually adjustable 33 1/3 and 45 rpm speeds. The turntable was offered in one- or two-tonearm versions for arms up to 12 inches, with adjustable arm bases. An optional RöNt vacuum-tube power supply could be used for the drive while the standard solid-state supply continued to power the bearing heater. Historical review material lists a launch-era turntable price of $5,995, with the tonearm and cartridge priced separately.
