The Brinkmann 12.1 tonearm features a 12.1-inch effective length, which reduces offset error inherent in pivoted tonearms by minimizing the angular distance where the cantilever is perfectly perpendicular to the groove. This results in lower distortion and a more natural, relaxed, and poised sound reproduction. Unlike simply being a longer version of the 10.5-inch model, the 12.1 incorporates structural changes to maintain torsional stability and reduce resonances despite the longer arm tube. It is made of composite material with special anti-resonant anodization and uses a double gimbal bearing system for smooth, precise movement. The headshell is fixed but allows ±5° rotation for azimuth adjustment via a small clamping screw under the arm tube. A precision plastic alignment tool matching the EMT-ti cartridge height helps align the headshell parallel to the record surface and adjust arm height, ensuring the stylus remains vertical to the groove. It supports cartridges weighing 4 to 16 grams and includes a 200-gram counterweight. The tonearm comes with unterminated flying leads and tools, with an option for a standard 5-pin SME-type connector.
