About the PV1

The Bowers & Wilkins PV1 is an innovative active subwoofer designed with a spherical aluminium pressure vessel enclosure that minimizes resonance and vibration. It houses two 8-inch (200 mm) long-throw mica/aluminium cone drivers arranged in an opposed, in-phase configuration to balance kinetic forces and reduce floor-borne vibrations. Powered by a 500W Class D IcePower amplifier, the PV1 delivers a frequency response from 18 Hz to 140 Hz (-3 dB at 21 Hz), with a sensitivity of 90 dB and a nominal impedance of 100 kΩ. The subwoofer features adjustable crossover points (40 Hz to 140 Hz), volume control, a 180° phase switch, and EQ curve options for flat, fatter, or fattest bass response to suit room acoustics and listener preferences. Connectivity includes line-level RCA inputs and outputs, a speaker-level input via RJ11 connector, and a headphone output. The enclosure measures approximately 335.5 mm high, 289 mm wide, and 347 mm deep, weighing 20.5 kg. Its design is inspired by diving bells and soap bubbles, providing a compact yet powerful subwoofer that produces clean, deep bass suitable for both music and home cinema applications. The PV1 is noted for its stylish appearance and exceptional sonic performance, offering tight, controlled bass without the typical cabinet coloration or vibration found in conventional subwoofers.
