About the VR-MX

The Boston Acoustics VR-MX is a high output, wide dispersion surround speaker ideal for side wall, rear wall, or ceiling placement in home theater setups. It features a unique design with two speaker baffles: one with an active 5.25-inch (133mm) woofer and one with a passive radiator, allowing the speaker to be oriented for either direct or diffuse surround sound effects. This flexibility enables either increased localization of surround effects or a more diffuse, theater-like sound field. The VR-MX employs two 1-inch (25mm) aluminum dome VR tweeters, one on each baffle, ensuring smooth, flat high-frequency response beyond the audible range and wide dispersion regardless of orientation. The woofer and passive radiator combination extends low frequency response down to 80Hz. The speaker is designed to complement Boston Acoustics VR-M monitors and VR900 series loudspeakers, making it a perfect sonic match. It includes wall-mount brackets and has a cherry wood veneer finish. The VR-MX can handle up to 200 watts RMS power and has an impedance of 8 ohms. It weighs approximately 9 lbs and measures about 27.94 cm high, 28.73 cm wide, and 15.09 cm deep. The speaker is no longer in production but remains highly regarded for its clarity, power handling, and versatile surround sound capabilities.
