The Black Note DSS-30 (Digital Static Source) is a standalone digital music player that plays audio files directly from USB sticks, memory cards, or external hard drives without the need for ripping or converting. It features no moving parts, which removes mechanical jitter, vibration, and wear issues typical of CD players. Built on a 100% open-source Linux platform, it supports 24-bit high-definition audio and includes 4GB of internal memory expandable via standard SD cards. Optional wireless and Wi-Fi connectivity enable multi-room streaming. The unit has two USB 2.0 ports on the front and two on the back, plus a 75-ohm RCA digital input for connection to CD transports. Analog outputs include stereo RCA and balanced XLR. The DSS-30 uses an AKM 4396 DAC chip with tube output stage employing ECC88 tubes for warm sound. It weighs approximately 7.5 kg and consumes 40 watts of power. Dimensions are 240mm (L) x 120mm (H) x 390mm (D).
