About the Odeon Lite
The Birdland Audio Odeon Lite is a 24-bit DAC supporting sampling rates from 32 kHz to 96 kHz. It features five digital inputs including two RCA/coaxial, BNC, optical (TOS), and AES/EBU balanced XLR, allowing versatile connectivity. The unit includes a dedicated on-board analog output volume potentiometer enabling direct connection to an amplifier without a preamplifier, preserving signal purity. It employs a true dual power supply design with multiple voltage regulation sources and local VCO jitter elimination for improved sound quality. The output is single-ended RCA with gold-plated connectors soldered directly to the PCB to minimize signal degradation. The DAC offers a bandwidth of 5 Hz to 23 kHz (+0/-1 dB at 48 kHz sampling), dynamic range better than 106 dB, signal-to-noise ratio better than 114 dB, and channel separation better than 118 dB. Output impedance is less than 2.5 kilo-ohms, with output levels ranging from 500 mV RMS at mid volume to 3.2 V RMS maximum. The compact chassis measures 41 mm high, 225 mm wide, and 165 mm deep, weighing approximately 1 kg. Released in late 1999 and discontinued around 2002, the Odeon Lite is praised for its natural, balanced, and musical sound with excellent transparency and dynamics, making it a highly regarded DAC for audiophiles at an affordable price point of about .
