About the FM10
The BIC FM-10 Beam Box is an electronically directable FM antenna produced around 1977-1978 by BIC America in Cleveland, Ohio. It is a passive antenna requiring no power, housed in a wooden bookshelf-style case with dimensions approximately 15.75" deep, 14.5" wide, and 4.4" high. The FM-10 features a four-position direction switch on the front panel to select the strongest signal direction and includes a tuning knob with a 4-gang variable capacitor inside for fine frequency tuning. It has both 300-ohm and 75-ohm outputs for connection to FM tuners or receivers. The antenna is designed to reduce multipath interference and improve reception in high-signal-strength environments, though it does not provide gain comparable to outdoor antennas. It is well-regarded for indoor use where outdoor antennas are impractical, offering better performance than typical rabbit ears and some amplified antennas. The FM-10 is noted for its classic wood veneer finish and vintage Hi-Fi aesthetic. It weighs about 6.6 pounds (3 kg).
