About the 250D
The BGW 250D is a professional stereo power amplifier introduced as an improved version of the original Model 250, featuring clipping indicator LEDs on the front panel for each channel. It delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms in stereo mode and 251 watts into 8 ohms in bridged mono mode, with a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz and total harmonic distortion of 0.1%. The amplifier is designed with a unique modular construction where each channel is on a separate plug-in module with a large aluminum heat sink for excellent thermal efficiency. It uses powerful large geometry single diffused transistors with a large safe operating area and a dynamic bias circuit for stable operation. The front end employs a high-speed, high slew rate operational amplifier IC (LM318). The unit has a damping factor greater than 230 at 8 ohms and 1 kHz, input sensitivity of 1.4 volts, and a voltage gain of 26 dB. It is built for professional and demanding applications, favored for its reliability and accurate, authoritative power delivery without coloration. The chassis is sturdy with integral rack mounts, measuring 133 x 483 x 298 mm and weighing approximately 11.2 kg. Power requirements are selectable internally for 100, 120, 200, 220, or 240 volts at 50-60 Hz. The BGW 250D was highly rated by the US Army Air Force Exchange for power output, distortion, signal-to-noise ratio, gain, and frequency response. It is considered a workhorse amplifier suitable for home or business use, with a reputation for stability under stress and solid performance.
