About the Alpha 2
The Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Reference Series 2 is a state-of-the-art digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that decodes PCM audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. It features balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog outputs, digital volume and balance control with 0.1dB steps and 60dB range, and selectable digital filters. The unit supports AES/EBU, SPDIF (two BNC), and Toslink optical digital inputs. It includes advanced jitter rejection and HDCD decoding, and its ultra low phase noise precision clocking enhances timing accuracy. The DAC is designed without USB or DSD inputs to avoid sonic compromises, focusing on pure performance. It has a robust metal enclosure measuring 17.5"W x 3.5"H x 12.5"D and weighs 30 lbs. The Alpha DAC Reference Series 2 is controlled via front panel or remote control, including volume, balance, input selection, and absolute polarity reversal. It is firmware upgradeable through signal inputs and comes with a three-year parts and labor warranty. The price is approximately reflecting its flagship status in Berkeley's lineup.
