The Benz Micro Gullwing MC cartridge is a hybrid design derived from the Benz LP S class, Ruby, and Glider models. It features a solid brass frame that is rhodium plated for enhanced electrical characteristics and aesthetic homage to the Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing. The cartridge uses a square ruby plate generator with an oversized neodymium magnet, the most powerful magnet used in any moving coil design, enabling superior performance. The Gullwing is designed for modern tonearms with advanced energy control and can handle its relatively high mass of 12.2 grams. It employs the Micro Ridge stylus (5 x 120 µm) for precise groove tracking. The SLR version has a low output of 0.34 mV and is best used with phono stages offering greater than 60 dB gain and loading above 400 ohms. The SHR version outputs 0.7 mV, suitable for tube phono stages with 50-60 dB gain and prefers a 47 kohm load. The cartridge offers a frequency response of 10–50,000 Hz ±1 dB, channel separation better than 35 dB at 1 kHz, and tracking force between 1.8 and 2.2 grams. It is acclaimed for its detailed, airy, and dynamic sound with a characteristic warm tonal balance. The Gullwing comes with a 2-year warranty and requires a break-in period of about 40 hours.
