About the Mu

The Bent Audio Mu consists of a pair of step-up transformers originally designed by John Chapman for low output moving coil phono cartridges. They are known for their high-quality construction and sound performance, featuring options for rewiring to different step-up ratios of 1:5, 1:10, or 1:20, which correspond to gain levels of 14 dB, 20 dB, or 26 dB respectively. The transformers are praised for their transparency and musicality, with some users noting the superior sound quality when resistors are removed from the circuit. The units come with short cables to minimize signal path length and are typically placed behind the pre-amplifier. Although no longer available as a kit, the Mu transformers remain highly regarded for their sonic performance and build quality.
