About the Avantic DL7-35
The Avantic DL7-35, manufactured by Beam Echo Ltd. in Witham, Essex, UK, is a classic high fidelity tube power amplifier first sold in 1956. It delivers 20 watts continuous power output with less than 0.05% total distortion, and can reach up to 27 watts at less than 0.1% distortion, with instantaneous peak power between 45 and 60 watts. The amplifier uses a Mullard 5-20 circuit design, featuring a tube complement including EL34 output tubes, EF86 input tube, ECC83 phase splitter, and GZ34 rectifier. It supports selectable output impedance for 4, 8, or 16 ohm loudspeakers via a switch that adjusts negative feedback accordingly. The unit is built with a metal chassis measuring 360 x 220 x 230 mm and requires external speakers. It includes 2 amp and 0.5 amp AC outlets for pre-amplifiers and uses a unique ventilation system to ensure reliable operation. The DL7-35 was praised for its realistic sound reproduction, low distortion, and excellent dynamic range, making it a highly collectible and respected amplifier among audiophiles. Beam Echo also offered a matching mono pre-amplifier and other Hi-Fi products under the Avantic brand. The amplifier was originally sold for £55 in the UK and is no longer manufactured.
