The Bastanis Mandala are circa 100dB open-baffle speakers that pay homage to the single-driver aesthetic, using proprietary 12" Chrystal wideband drivers (two per side wired in series for a nominal 16Ω load) and a Gemini compression tweeter mounted between the widebanders in an MTM array. The tweeter is high-passed at 11kHz with a 1.0µF capacitor, acoustically blending with the widebanders around 8kHz. Graphite resistors are used to flatten impedance for tube amps and ensure driver matching. These speakers produce a highly expressive and nuanced sound, projecting a large soundstage with great depth and bloom even at moderate levels, and can deliver startling dynamic impact. They are capable of doing justice to all kinds of music with as little as 10 watts of pure triode power per channel (excluding separate woofer amps). The Mandala system includes an 18-inch open baffle W-frame powered subwoofer per channel for extended bass. The open baffle design eliminates cabinet resonances, enhancing micro-detail and natural imaging.
