About the Ovation

The Basis Audio Ovation is a high-end, belt-driven LP turntable designed by A.J. Conti as a more affordable implementation of the design principles used in the Debut Gold Standard, with a strong focus on mechanical isolation and precision engineering. Its platter is belt-driven by a Swiss-made AC synchronous motor housed in a separate, freestanding motor pod, reducing transmission of motor vibration to the platter. The subchassis is suspended from two aluminum support arms and effectively floats on four suspension cartridges, each combining a steel spring with silicone fluid damping to isolate the stylus–groove interface from external vibrations. The turntable uses an oil-well main bearing with a 0.5" shaft diameter, tungsten carbide wear surfaces, and extremely tight bearing/bushing tolerances (on the order of 0.0001") to maintain a uniform lubrication gap and minimize mechanical noise. The armboard is a massive, well-damped composite of dense acrylic and lead, typically supplied pre-drilled for premium tonearms such as the SME V, and is more substantial than many platters, supporting compatibility with other high-end arms when properly drilled. The Ovation includes a record clamp to improve record-to-platter coupling and is intended to be used without a record mat. Weight is approximately 70 lb, with dimensions around 23" W × 16.5" D × 5.25" H, and speed options of 33⅓ and 45 rpm, featuring wow and flutter of 0.02% and rumble of –90 dB (DIN). Vacuum record-hold and advanced power-supply systems are not part of the Ovation's original design and instead belong to later, higher-tier Basis Audio models.
