The Balanced Audio Technology VK-55 is a meticulously designed vacuum tube power amplifier that combines a fully balanced design topology with intelligent automatic biasing of individual output tubes. It delivers 55 watts per channel into 8 ohms in stereo mode and 110 watts in mono mode, using the high-current dual-triode 6C33C-B tubes, the same used in BAT's flagship REX II amplifier. The VK-55 features a compact chassis (17" x 8" x 16") and weighs 50 lbs. It offers a frequency response from 8Hz to 200kHz, a nominal gain of 25 dB, and low total harmonic distortion of 3%. The amplifier includes 4 x 6SN7 and 4 x 6C33C-B tubes, with an input impedance of 215 kΩ in stereo and 108 kΩ in mono. It has an intelligent auto-bias design that adjusts for line voltage changes and tube aging, ensuring optimal performance and ease of use. The VK-55 can be upgraded to monoblock operation by adding a second unit or a wire kit. It is known for its midrange clarity, power, and dynamic musical insight, providing a vivid, relaxed, and liquid sound character.
