About the Rhumba 1.2
The Backert Labs Rhumba 1.2 is an updated version of their best-selling tube preamplifier, designed by veteran circuit designer Bob Backert and assembled in the U.S. It features a single-ended line stage with two 12AU7 tubes accessible via a top panel tube access door. The preamp includes 4 inputs (3 RCA, 1 XLR), 3 outputs (2 RCA, 1 XLR), a record output, and a home theater bypass input. It offers 9dB gain, a frequency response from 1.5Hz to 320kHz, and a very low output impedance of 75 ohms. The innovative GreenForce power supply actively pushes power into the amplifying circuit, improving timing, rhythm, and dynamics while using environmentally friendly polypropylene capacitors. The Rhumba 1.2 is praised for its exceptional transparency, dynamic accuracy, and tonal balance, delivering a sound quality close to Backert Labs' flagship Rhythm 1.4 model but at a significantly lower price point. It is well-built with a substantial chassis and a precise volume-only remote control. The preamp is highly regarded for its wide, deep, and holographic soundstage, excellent control over tempo and rhythm, and the ability to reveal micro-details in music without sounding analytical or grainy.
