The Ayre KX-R Twenty is a high-end line-level preamplifier designed to deliver exceptional audio fidelity through advanced engineering and meticulous design. It features a Variable Gain Transimpedance (VGT) volume circuit that maintains consistent sound quality at all volume levels by altering gain rather than attenuating the input signal. The preamplifier employs Ayre's exclusive Diamond output circuit and a newly developed AyreLock power supply with discrete voltage regulation and increased capacitance for improved dynamic performance. The design is zero-feedback and fully balanced with discrete circuitry, ensuring minimal distortion and noise. It offers 60-step volume control with 1.0 dB increments, Equilock circuitry for active gain devices, input ground switching for true source isolation, and a fly-by-wire control system. Connectivity includes eight inputs (four balanced XLR and four single-ended RCA), two balanced outputs, and two balanced tape outputs. The unit is housed in a solid aluminum monocoque chassis with a dimmable silent-mode fluorescent display and includes an Ayre Conditioner Power-Line RFI Filter. The KX-R Twenty supports programmable processor pass-through input and full-function remote control operation. It weighs approximately 18 kg and measures 17.25" W x 11.5" D x 3.75" H (43.8 cm x 29.2 cm x 9.5 cm).
