About the DragonFly Red

The DragonFly Red is a USB digital-to-analog converter (DAC), preamplifier, and headphone amplifier that bypasses the internal sound card of your device to provide cleaner, clearer, and more natural sound. It features a 32-bit ESS Sabre 9016 DAC chip with a minimum-phase fast roll-off filter and an ESS Sabre 9601 headphone amplifier. The device supports native decoding of 24-bit/96kHz audio files and uses a unique Hybrid-PLL clock system for superior timing and reduced jitter. It connects via USB and is compatible with Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android devices (with adapters). The DragonFly Red offers a 64-step, 64-bit, bit-perfect digital volume control, allowing precise volume adjustments through the host device. Its compact size and robust metal construction make it portable and durable. The device features a smart LED indicator that shows sample rate and status with different colors. It has an output voltage of 2.1V, suitable for driving a wide range of headphones with improved transparency, detail, spaciousness, and dynamic expression compared to its sibling, the DragonFly Black. The DragonFly Red is discontinued but remains a highly regarded portable DAC and headphone amplifier.
