About the Mephisto II.X
The Audiomeca Mephisto II.X is a premium CD player designed and manufactured in France, renowned for its analog-like sound quality that appeals to vinyl enthusiasts. It features a top-loading CD mechanism with a manual CD puck and an external power supply housed in a stainless steel box, which separately powers the analog and digital sections for improved isolation and reduced interference. The player uses an Anagram Technologies based DAC system, similar to the Audiomeca Enkianthus DAC, providing upsampling to 24-bit/192kHz. The chassis includes a suspended subchassis with adjustable leveling screws and foam wedges for vibration isolation. The Mephisto II.X offers balanced and unbalanced analog outputs, as well as digital outputs (SPDIF and AES/EBU). Sonically, it is praised for its warm, lush midrange, full-bodied vocals, and a slightly plummy bass that avoids digital glare or harshness, delivering a smooth, natural, and highly musical listening experience. The design is visually striking with a sleek black finish and gold knobs, giving it a futuristic appearance. It is considered a rare and collectible audiophile component, with limited availability and no current production. Spare parts, such as laser pickup assemblies, are scarce due to the brand's discontinuation.
