About the I/70
The Audio Research I/70 Integrated Amplifier represents a significant leap in audio performance from its I/50 predecessor, combining the company's legendary tube amplification expertise with modern versatility. Designed with precision and passion, the I/70 features a separate active tube preamplifier section driving its power amplifier stage, delivering rich, dynamic sound. The amplifier utilizes output transformers from Audio Research's Reference 75SE amplifier, ensuring exceptional sound quality. The headphone output is driven directly by the 6550 output tubes, providing an immersive listening experience. The I/70's visual design takes inspiration from the REF330M, featuring black or silver anodized finishes with machined aluminum details and a full mesh wrap around the bottom chassis. A new machined metal remote control provides sophisticated control of all functions. The amplifier is expandable with optional modules: a DAC card featuring the AKM Velvet Sound DAC chip supporting USB, optical, coaxial, and Bluetooth inputs, and an MM/MC phono card with adjustable MC loading (50-1k ohms) for vinyl enthusiasts. Both modules are user-installable. Built by hand in Audio Research's Minnesota facility, each unit is twice tested and individually auditioned in their reference system.
