About the DAX Discrete
The Audio Synthesis DAX Discrete is a premium DAC designed for audiophiles seeking exceptional sound quality from digital sources. It supports eight digital audio input rates including 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz, 192kHz, and DSD for SACD playback. The unit features standard S/PDIF and AES/EBU inputs up to 96kHz, with higher rates supported via the proprietary Audio Synthesis Link (ASL) dual-ST glass optical interface, which significantly reduces jitter and enhances analog resolution. The DAX Discrete comes in two versions: Basic, with fixed analog output level and no remote control, and Variable, which includes remote control for attenuation in 1.0dB steps, remote selection of DSP filters, and modular input expansion up to six inputs. Standard inputs include S/PDIF, Toslink, and two ST optical connectors configurable as individual or dual-ST ASL inputs. Optional balanced XLR outputs are available. The DAC outputs 1.5V rms unbalanced and 3.0V rms balanced, with frequency response dc coupled to -0.1dB at 20kHz. The DAX Discrete is highly regarded for its smooth, refined sound with excellent transparency, dynamic agility, and a musical, non-aggressive character. It can also function as a preamplifier when equipped with volume control. The
