About the DAX Discrete

The Audio Synthesis DAX Discrete is a high-end digital-to-analogue converter offered in Basic and Variable versions. It accepts conventional digital inputs including coaxial S/PDIF, Toslink, and ST optical connections. Audio Synthesis Link (ASL), an optional feature on the Basic model and standard on the Variable model, uses a dual-ST glass-optical connection with separate clock and data paths to reduce interface jitter. The Variable version adds remote-controlled output-level adjustment and expanded input options; optional balanced analogue output boards were also available. The DAX Discrete is a DAC rather than a general-purpose preamplifier, although the Variable version can provide level control for use in a system without a separate preamplifier.
