The Audio Research Reference Two (Ref 2) is a prestigious vacuum-tube stereo preamplifier designed as a high-end benchmark in tube-based audio gear. It features a fully balanced gain section using eight specially selected Sovtek dual-triode 6922 tubes, delivering a warm, rich sound with clarity and speed. The preamp includes innovative electronic volume and balance controls with 125 steps, controlled by spring-loaded on/off switches, and a versatile remote control that duplicates most front-panel functions. It supports multiple inputs with balanced and single-ended options, tape monitoring, phase inversion, and memory for input configurations. The chassis is relatively tall due to vertically mounted circuit boards, and the power supply uses a 5AR4 rectifier tube regulated by a 6L6GC and a 6922 tube.
