About the CD6
The Audio Research CD6 is a high-end compact disc player and digital-to-analog converter with a top-loading Philips PRO2R transport and magnetic disc puck. It uses quad 24-bit DACs in mono configuration and dual master oscillators—one for 44.1/88.2/176.4 kHz rates and one for 48/96/192 kHz rates—for accurate digital timing. Its digital inputs include asynchronous USB 2.0, RCA S/PDIF, AES/EBU, and two Toslink optical inputs, supporting PCM signals up to 24-bit/192 kHz. CD, RCA, AES/EBU, and Toslink inputs can operate in native mode or upsample to 176.4 or 192 kHz; USB input supports upsampling to 88.2 or 96 kHz. Analog outputs are provided on balanced XLR and single-ended RCA connectors, while digital outputs include AES/EBU and BNC S/PDIF. Selectable fast- and slow-rolloff digital filters, a dimmable vacuum-fluorescent display, front-panel controls, and a metal-cased remote complete the feature set. The CD6 measures approximately 19 inches wide, 5.25 inches high, and 12.25 inches deep, and weighs about 25.9 pounds.
