The Audio Research 40th Anniversary Edition Reference Preamplifier is a dual-chassis, all-tube linestage preamplifier designed to commemorate the company's 40 years of excellence. It features a dual-mono design with separate audio and power supply chassis, each channel having its own low and high voltage transformers and vacuum-tube regulation using 6550C and 6H30 tubes. The audio section employs eight 6H30 triode tubes (four per channel) in a pure Class-A, zero-feedback circuit, delivering extremely low distortion (<0.006% THD at 2V output) and exceptional dynamic headroom. Custom Teflon coupling capacitors weighing over two pounds each contribute to its sonic purity. The preamplifier offers multiple balanced and single-ended inputs and outputs, including a dedicated home theater bypass, and features a large green OLED display with volume and input controls. It weighs approximately 68 pounds total and measures 19" x 7" x 15.5" per chassis.
