The Audible Illusions Modulus 3B is the latest generation of the Modulus preamplifier series, building on over 40 years of design evolution and more than 20,000 units sold worldwide. It features a dual-mono, Class A, single-ended triode, open loop circuit design with no cathode followers or buffers, adhering to the philosophy that 'simpler is better.' The M3B includes an external power supply with three separate supplies to prevent AC-induced distortions and five fully-regulated FET power supplies in the main chassis. It offers precision stepped attenuator volume controls, low-light backlit control knobs, proprietary gold-plated RCA jacks with Teflon insulators, and hand-soldered circuit boards using silver-bearing solder. The preamplifier supports multiple inputs including CD, DVD, Phono, Tuner, Video, Auxiliary, and Tape, with output selections for main and tape. It has a 45-second warm-up muting feature and automatic brown-out protection. The phono section provides 28dB gain at 1kHz with a frequency response of ±0.25dB of RIAA from 20Hz to 20kHz, low distortion, and high signal-to-noise ratio. The M3B is highly regarded for its musical clarity, dynamic range, and ability to reproduce music with the scale and timbre of the original recording.
