About the LA1
The Artemis Labs LA-1 is a tube line preamplifier designed with simplicity and high fidelity in mind. It uses a single 5687 medium-mu, low resistance triode as the amplifying device for each channel, chosen for its excellent linearity and low distortion. The preamplifier features a 24-position stepped attenuator for precise volume control and can drive loads as low as 8K ohms. It includes five stereo inputs controlled by a rotary switch and two pairs of output jacks, allowing connection to powered subwoofers or other devices. The LA-1 employs a soft heater turn-on and delayed high voltage application to extend tube life, and a muting relay to protect outputs during power-up. The design emphasizes minimal feedback and capacitor coupling for a direct and present sound with excellent headroom and dynamics. It is built in the USA using high-quality components and point-to-point wiring on military-style terminal boards. The unit measures 165 x 216 x 371 mm, weighs 10 kg, and consumes about 40 watts nominal power. The LA-1 is praised for its simplicity, sound quality, and value, with a
