About the Alana 2
The Art Audio / Gill Audio Alana Preamp Mark 2 is a full tube preamplifier designed for audiophile enthusiasts. It features three single-ended line level inputs and two outputs, selectable via a front panel switch controlling relays mounted close to the inputs to minimize signal path and noise. The unit includes a black anodized metal remote handset with volume and mute functions, and a three-color LED display indicating input selection and volume level. It uses upgraded Mullard CV2493 tubes and offers an incredibly balanced presentation with excellent micro and macro dynamic detail retrieval. The sound is characterized by smooth extended highs, rich and full-bodied midrange, and articulate, authoritative bass performance. It is capable of delivering both finesse and nuance for delicate chamber music and the weight, density, and drive for more complex music, resulting in a transparent yet rich sound. The preamp employs independent power supplies and regulators for all sections, extensive use of premium components such as Hovland, Axon, and Wima capacitors, Roderstein resistors, Linear Technology regulators, Telefunken ultra-fast soft recovery diodes, and a choke-loaded high voltage supply. Each tube section is individually decoupled with polypropylene filter capacitors. The chassis is heavy gauge powder-coated steel with a chrome or black anodized faceplate and includes a full-length shield between the power transformers and audio sections. Gold pin ceramic tube sockets and silver Teflon wiring are used throughout. Tubes are removed for shipping to prevent damage. The preamp is highly regarded for its musicality, emotional engagement, and detailed harmonic presentation without sounding analytical or artificial. It runs tubes in pure Class A and uses NOS 6922s (or Russian 6H23s) and a 6FQ7/6CG7 tube in the output stage. The unit is sold with original remote control and manual, and shipping is available internationally upon inquiry.
