About the Kassandra II
The Aries Cerat Kassandra II Reference is a high-end DAC designed to deliver exceptional audio quality. It utilizes 16 R2R converters per channel, employing the top-grade Analogue Devices AD1865N-K chips, with 8 converters per bank. The DAC incorporates a small Single Ended tube amplifier stage, using the E280F tube, which is driven by a transformer-loaded output. This setup provides a robust gain stage with selectable output impedance options, such as 10V @ 50 ohms or 5V @ 12 ohms. The device features extensive local decoupling using tuned LC filters and over-engineered power supplies with eight toroidal transformers and a total system capacitance of over 2.5 Farads. Additionally, it includes an internal Super-Clock with a separate toroidal transformer and triple-regulated supply, which can be bypassed on the fly. The Kassandra II Reference DAC is known for its dynamic capabilities, offering both micro and macro dynamic modulations that enhance the listening experience. It is a large unit, weighing 60 kg and measuring 540mm wide x 520mm deep x 165mm high.
