About the Stage One

The Aragon Stage One, released in 2002, is an 8-channel THX Ultra2 certified preamplifier-processor that combines audiophile-quality analog stereo preamplification with advanced surround sound processing. It supports Dolby Digital 5.1/EX, DTS 5.1/ES Matrix/Discrete/Neo:6, THX Ultra2, Dolby Pro Logic II, and 8-channel bypass. Features include true analog preamp stage, combination digital/analog bass management, adjustable crossovers (25-125Hz in 5Hz steps), level calibration per mode, Philips ProntoNEO learning remote, built-in AM/FM tuner, and extensive video switching (HD-compatible component). It uses a Motorola 56367 DSP engine and Crystal 24-bit/192kHz DACs on all 8 channels. Analog volume control via CS3310 chips ensures precise 0.5dB steps. No longer manufactured, it was praised for superior 2-channel and HT performance.
