About the LaScala
The Aqua LaScala is a high-end digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that features a proprietary Optologic D/A conversion system. It uses a multibit sign magnitude R2R ladder architecture, which is upgradable. The DAC is based on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and does not include a digital filter, aiming to preserve the transient shape of the original digital signal. It supports native sample rates from 44.1 kHz to 384 kHz PCM and DSD64, DSD128 via DoP. The LaScala also includes galvanic and magnetic isolations between the FPGA and R2R ladder converter, ensuring a jitter-free digital interface via AQlink (I2S protocol). The analog stage is a valve-MOSFET hybrid circuit, utilizing ECC81 tubes for low noise characteristics and a pure class-A operation without negative feedback.
