About the DX Gen 2
The Antipodes Audio DX Gen 2 is a high-end music server designed for audiophile-grade digital music playback. It features a quad-core Intel Atom processor with 4GB DDR3 RAM used to cache playlists for direct playback, improving sound quality by managing file transfer from storage to RAM efficiently. The unit supports internal solid-state drives (SSD) up to 3TB, with Samsung 3D V-NAND technology or other optimized SSDs selected for best sonic performance. It runs a custom Linux-based OS (Antipodes 2) with integrated Roon Core and Roon Ready, allowing it to function as a Roon server, endpoint, or both, with flexible routing options. The DX Gen 2 outputs digital audio via USB Audio 2.0 and optionally via galvanically isolated, reclocked S/PDIF outputs (AES/EBU, coaxial, Toslink) using a dedicated XMOS X-CORE multi-core processor and ultra-high quality differential line drivers to ensure minimal jitter and noise. It supports PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD64/DSD128 formats. The chassis is all-alloy and fanless for low noise, with internal linear regulated power supplies. Additional features include an automatic CD ripper with bit-perfect paranoid mode, user-switchable voltage, and low power consumption. Dimensions are approximately 430mm wide, 85mm high, and 273mm deep, weighing about 7 kg. The DX Gen 2 is designed for plug-and-play use but offers advanced configuration options for audiophiles seeking the highest sound quality.
