The Analysis Audio Amphitryon are large-scale, two-way planar-ribbon loudspeakers featuring a planar magnetic woofer with an effective area of 745 sq in and a direct coupled ribbon midrange/tweeter with an effective area of 62 sq in. They stand approximately 7 feet tall, 28 inches wide, and just under 3 inches deep, with a weight of 66 kg (145 lbs) each. The speakers use a first-order (6 dB/octave) external crossover at around 650 Hz, which ensures a smooth and seamless transition between drivers without audible distortion or artifacts. The impedance is nominally 6 ohms with a very flat impedance curve, making them compatible with mid-power tube amplifiers. Sensitivity is rated at 86 dB/W/m, and the speakers can handle up to 600 watts. The design emphasizes a large planar membrane and ribbon drivers to reduce sound wave attenuation over distance, providing clear and transparent sound with bass extension down to 20 Hz. The cabinets are slim and supported by sturdy feet, with finishes available in black, gray, or natural wood with black cloth covering the bass panels. Bi-wire 5-way speaker terminals are located at the bottom rear of each panel. These speakers are considered a final, mature audiophile choice for high-fidelity sound reproduction.
