About the Xenon
The Amphion Xenon is a three-way floorstanding loudspeaker designed and manufactured by Finnish company Amphion Loudspeakers Ltd. It features a 200mm (8 inch) bass driver with a 155mm aluminium cone diaphragm, a 165mm midrange driver with a 115mm metal cone diaphragm, and a 25mm metal dome tweeter recessed in a sculpted waveguide. The bass driver is side-mounted and port-loaded at the rear in a bass reflex enclosure. The midrange driver occupies its own sub-enclosure with resistive leakage grilles to create a modified dipole radiation pattern, allowing the speaker to be placed closer to walls without midrange coloration. The crossover frequencies are at 150 Hz and 1200 Hz. The speaker weighs approximately 30-32 kg and measures about 1070 mm high, 360 mm deep, and 190 mm wide. It includes a Bass Adjustment System (BAS) to tune bass response for different room environments. The Xenon is praised for its crisp, clean, and coherent midband and treble, with a wide and even sound dispersion due to its waveguide design. However, it may require careful placement in larger rooms to optimize bass performance. The speaker supports bi-wiring with two pairs of binding posts and is rated at 8 ohms impedance with a sensitivity of about 87 dB. It is a passive speaker designed for high-fidelity home audio use, known for its musicality, transparency, and imaging capabilities.
