About the 9W2
The AMG 9W2 tonearm is a precision-engineered 9-inch tonearm based on the award-winning AMG 12J2 12-inch model. It features a patented dual-pivot bearing system that uses two 0.5 mm thick spring steel wires to eliminate horizontal bearing play, allowing fine azimuth adjustment and direct acoustic coupling for exceptional sound clarity. The vertical bearing uses a hardened tool steel horizontal axle with a needle roller bearing, ensuring maintenance-free, backlash-free operation. The armwand is made from aircraft-grade anodized aluminum for resonance control, with internal wiring consisting of multiple stranded high-purity copper for maximum acoustic transparency. It includes a magnetic anti-skating system isolated within the bearing housing and a precision locking VTA adjustment with an integrated bubble level for easy height tuning during playback. Designed primarily for the Linn LP-12 turntable and compatible with other turntables accommodating its 211 mm pivot-to-spindle length, the 9W2 offers excellent spatial presence, dynamic performance, and sonic precision. It is hand-assembled with high-grade materials and features a two-piece counterweight with Teflon decoupling for optimal vibration isolation and bass control. The tonearm has been highly praised for its build quality, dynamic clarity, and innovative bearing design, earning a Class A Recommended Component rating from Stereophile.
