The Altec Lansing 890C Bolero is a classic bookshelf loudspeaker system produced between 1969 and 1976 in the USA. It features a 2-way, 3-driver design with a 10-inch cone woofer and a matching 10-inch passive radiator (phase inverter) that provides bass performance comparable to a 15-inch woofer. The tweeter is a horn type, producing clear highs. The crossover frequency is approximately 2000Hz, and the system has an impedance of 8 ohms and a power handling capacity of 50 watts. The cabinet is finished in hand-rubbed American walnut with a snap-on fretwork grille. Dimensions are approximately 650 x 371 x 301 mm (25.6" x 14.6" x 11.9"). The woofer uses a 3.5-inch edge-wound voice coil with a 9.5-pound Alnico magnet, similar to the motor assembly found in Altec 414 B/C 12-inch woofers. The speakers are praised for their superb imaging, natural midrange, defined low bass, and excellent transient response, making them highly regarded among vintage speaker enthusiasts.
