About the GX77

The Akai GX-77 is a premium 4-track, 2-channel stereo reel-to-reel tape recorder with auto-reverse operation and a 6-head system (2 GX recording heads, 2 GX playback heads, and 2 erase heads). It is designed for conventional and EE (Extra Efficiency) chrome-type tapes, supports tape speeds of 3¾ and 7½ inches per second (9.5 and 19 cm/s), and uses a 3-motor transport with one FG servo DC capstan motor and two DC reel motors. It measures 440 x 244 x 227 mm and weighs 17 kg. It was recognized with Japan's Good Design award in 1982.
