The Adcom GFA-585se is a muscle amplifier capable of delivering very large peaks into low impedances, exceeding 50 amperes per channel. It represents a modern revival of Adcom's classic designs, with every component carefully selected and upgraded for improved performance. The amplifier features balanced and unbalanced inputs, is bridgeable into a powerful monoblock configuration, and is designed to drive low impedance speaker systems down to 2 ohms. Laboratory testing by Newport Test Labs measured both-channels-driven power output into 8Ω as 496 watts per channel, exceeding the 450-watt specification, with the ability to deliver this power consistently across the entire audio spectrum from 20Hz to 20kHz. The frequency response extends from 1.5Hz to 216kHz at the 3dB down-points, demonstrating both flat and extended response characteristics. The amplifier weighs 32kg and measures 275 × 482 × 502mm, requiring substantial rack or floor space.
