About the AR 3a

The Acoustic Research AR-3a is a three-way loudspeaker system featuring a 305 mm (12 inch) acoustic suspension woofer, a 32-38 mm hemispherical dome midrange driver, and a 19-20 mm hemispherical dome tweeter. It was manufactured in the USA between 1964 and 1974 and is renowned for its accurate sound reproduction, especially in the midrange frequencies. The speaker uses a bass reflex design with crossover frequencies at 575 Hz and 5000 Hz, and includes midrange and treble level controls for tonal adjustment. The cabinet is finished in American walnut with a removable front fabric cover in light brown. It weighs approximately 24 kg and measures 356 x 636 x 289 mm (WxHxD). Originally It requires a minimum amplifier power of 25 watts RMS and has an impedance of 4 ohms. The design was a significant advancement in speaker technology, incorporating miniature hemispherical drivers to improve dispersion and realism of sound across the listening area.
