About the DP-85
The Accuphase DP-85 is a premium integrated SACD/CD player manufactured in Yokohama, Japan, from 2001 to 2007. It supports playback of SACD (2-channel), Hybrid SACD, CD, CD-R, and CD-RW formats. The player features a revolutionary Multiple Delta Sigma (MDS) 24-bit D/A converter with multiple delta sigma units in parallel for exceptional accuracy, dynamic range, and low distortion. It supports new generation digital formats with sampling rates up to 2.8224 MHz/1 bit and 192 kHz/24 bits. The transport section uses a dedicated DSP for digital servo control and a single lens/twin pickup high-speed mechanism for precise signal readout and fast access. The processor section is fully separate from the transport, with coaxial and optical digital inputs, allowing independent use and expansion via plug-in modules. The DP-85 offers balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) analog outputs, ultra jitter-free PLL circuitry, and digital level control. Its build quality is robust, with thick metal casing and internal separation of power supplies, weighing 19.2 kg. The unit comes in a champagne color and includes a remote control (RC-28). It is highly regarded for its balanced, natural sound with excellent bass foundation, low distortion (0.0008% THD on SACD), wide frequency response (0.5 Hz to 50 kHz on SACD), and high signal-to-noise ratio (116 dB on SACD).
