About the Alon Model IV
The Alon Model IV is a three-way floorstanding loudspeaker designed by Acarian Systems. It features a 12" fiber-cone woofer, a 5" tri-laminate cone midrange, and a 1" metal-dome tweeter, all custom-made to Acarian's specifications. The crossover frequencies are set at 400 Hz and 3.5 kHz, with slopes varying between 6 and 12 dB/octave, optimized specifically for the drivers rather than using classic crossover curves. The crossover is hard-wired on three separate boards using air-core inductors and polypropylene capacitors. The speaker supports tri-wiring with six binding posts, and bi-wiring is considered a reduced-performance option. The frequency response ranges from 29 Hz to 25 kHz ±3 dB, with low-frequency bandwidth down to -3 dB at 29 Hz and -9 dB at 20 Hz. The Alon IV is praised for its ability to handle demanding bass passages with authority and clarity, though some users note a slight etched quality in the upper midrange/lower treble region. Originally The speaker is no longer in production.
