About the 4715 Shigaraki
The 4715 Shigaraki DAC by 47 Laboratory is a digital-to-analog converter known for its minimalist, ultra-performance design housed in a unique non-conductive, totally de-electric Shigaraki ceramic casing. This casing not only provides a distinctive aesthetic resembling natural stone but also contributes to the sound quality by reducing vibration and electrical interference. The DAC operates without digital or analog filters, using a passive I/V conversion method, and supports input sampling frequencies of 32kHz, 44.1kHz, and 48kHz, which are selected automatically. It features one unbalanced S/PDIF digital input and one pair of unbalanced analog RCA outputs. The unit is compact, measuring approximately 76W x 76H x 80D mm for the main unit and 76W x 76H x 141D mm for the external power supply. The design philosophy emphasizes short signal paths and minimal circuitry, resulting in a sound that is described as natural, coherent, and closer to analog than typical digital DACs. The Shigaraki ceramic chassis also enhances sound clarity and balance at lower volumes. The DAC is often paired with the 4716 CD transport, also housed in Shigaraki ceramic, to form a high-end digital playback system. The new price for the combination was around 4,750 euros. The product is highly regarded for its unique combination of traditional Japanese ceramic craftsmanship and advanced audio technology, delivering a smooth, open sound with excellent micro-detail retrieval.
